Conférence des Notariats de L'Union Européenne

A word from the CNUE's President

Welcome to the Conférence des Notariats de l'Union Européenne (CNUE) website.

Following the accession of the new Member States on 1 May 2004 the CNUE represents the notarial professions of Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain in dealings with European Union institutions.

The CNUE, with the support of all of the member notarial professions, aims to contribute to the development of a common area of freedom, security and justice, by placing its own experience in the field of safeguarding security and the freedom of negotiation at the disposal of all European citizens.

The CNUE's activity thus primarily focuses on the study and a deeper understanding of the main topics of debate in the context of European civil and commercial law: contract, family and company law, the recognition and execution of judicial decisions and authentic deeds, consumer protection and combating money-laundering.

Moreover, training European notaries in Community law is also one of the Conference's main commitments. This is a challenge that all the professions in Europe are currently being asked to meet and which notaries, accustomed to a role of exercising public power in compliance with strict rules of access and disciplinary control by the authorities, are already fulfilling with a devotion that will reach its pinnacle with the celebration of the 1st CNUE Congress in Rome on 10 and 11 November 2005.

I am convinced that our countries' notarial professions, the upholders of a centuries-old legal culture, will be even more capable of providing citizens and Community institutions with their contribution so that a European Union that is ever closer to each participant's requirements can be built.

Mr Paolo Piccoli
President of the CNUE
